Introduction
The 6-item Washington Group Short Set of Disability Questions (WGQ) is a set questions designed to identify people with a disability. The questions assess whether people have difficulty performing basic universal activities such as walking, seeing, hearing, cognition, self-care and communication.
The WGQ should always be used in conjunction with other measurement tools and should not be used in isolation, because it is intended as a screening tool only and only assesses one aspect of disability. The 6-item version is not sufficiently sensitive for use in leprosy, hence an 11-item version has been developed and validated that has much better sensitivity for detecting disability in persons affected by leprosy.
