Antiparasitic drug praziquantel
Abstract
This chapter provides a detailed description of the antiparasitic drug praziquantel. It begins by reviewing the history of developing antischistosomal drugs, highlighting the remarkable efficacy of praziquantel in the treatment of schistosomiasis. Subsequently, it delves into the medicinal chemistry of praziquantel, discussing its structure-activity relationship, pharmacological differences between chiral isomers, deuterated praziquantel, and the solution of drug resistance. In the final section, the green synthesis of praziquantel and levorotatory praziquantel is discussed, along with the concept of green chemistry and process concerns in industrial drug synthesis.
