SWCR Guidelines for Leprotic Ulcers

Kumar P, Chittoria R, Singh AK, et al. Journal of the Society for Wound Care and Research. 2024;

The Society for Wound Care and Research (SWCR) is a distinguished organization that uniquely integrates academic, clinical, research, and social service dimensions. Founded in 2006, its mission is to advance the practice of effective wound care and research, and to provide community healthcare related to trauma and wounds. This is achieved through various publications, including journals, newspapers, books, and handbills, as well as by maintaining a website, establishing scholarships and foundations, offering lectureships, and providing grants and other contributions both in India and internationally. These initiatives are designed to enhance knowledge and practice in the field of wound care and research and to foster their establishment.

The Society released its inaugural guideline, “SWCR Guidelines for Wound Management,” at the 2nd International & 7th National Annual Conference of SWCR (Wound Care Con 2012- 2013), held at JIPMER, Pondicherry. This guideline was subsequently published in the Journal of SWCR (JSWCR) in 2014 [51]. Following this, the SWCR has issued guidelines for various wound types, including Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs) [52], Pressure Ulcers (PUs) [53], Dressings [54], Venous Leg Ulcers (VLUs) [55], Radiation Ulcers (RUs) [56], Lymphedema Ulcers (LUs) [57], and Necrotizing Fasciitis (NF) [58], all of which have been published in the JSWCR. The current guideline addressing Leprotic Ulcers (LUs) has been developed by a committee constituted by the Society for Wound Care and Research (SWCR) and is discussed in detail below.

Aim To formulate simple and practical guidelines for management of Leprotic Ulcers (LUs).

Objectives
• To develop guidelines based on an acronym so it’s easy to remember.
• To develop scientific & evidence-based guidelines

Acronym The Guidelines for management of Leprotic Ulcers (LUs) can be easily memorized by an acronym S.W.C.R. which is name of society i.e., Society for Wound Care & Research (SWCR) (Fig. 4).
