Noma: a highly neglected disease

Noma is a poorly known yet devastating disease which prevails among some of the most impoverished and vulnerable communities. Affecting mainly children aged 2-6, it is thought to be a polymicrobial disease, affecting the soft and hard tissues and skin of the face, and is exacerbated by several other determinants of health such as poor oral health or malnutrition. Survivors are left with deep sequelae and require long and difficult rehabilitation.

This playlist brings together a range of presentations, panel discussions, films and events which put the spotlight on the disease noma, including an overview of completed and ongoing basic research to better understand this disease; decades of advocacy to bring light to this scourge; programs in place to tackle this disease in the field; multi-sectoral partnerships across sectors such as oral health, neglected tropical diseases and mental health to prevent and tackle noma; ...and much more!
