Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) (beginner)
Course details
About this course
Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to the transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery and so many other Water borne diseases. Absent, inadequate, or inappropriately managed water and sanitation services expose individuals to preventable health risks.
Access to clean water and sanitation means being able to avoid exposure to these and countless other diseases as well as improve the quality of life among populations. According to the UN, every year, millions of people die from diseases caused by inadequate water supply, sanitation, and hygiene. Other than pneumonia, diarrhoea is the main cause of death in children under age 5. Access to clean and safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene are crucial to human health and well-being. WASH is not only a prerequisite to health but contributes to the improvement of livelihoods, school attendance and dignity and helps to create resilient communities living in healthy environments.
Learm more over how to support communities to come close to attaining SDG 6 and enabling Clean Water and Sanitation for all through this course.
