We aimed to assess the accumulated knowledge on scientific literature regarding the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on disease control and local health systems.
A total of 65 studies that addressed the effects of Covid-19 on dengue, Chikungunya fever, lymphatic filariasis, Culicidae control, malaria, leishmaniasis, scabies, lice, leprosy, soil-transmitted helminthiases, schistosomiasis, rabies, snakebites, and trachoma were included in this review. There are several multifaced factors that influence healthcare systems and coverage during an international public health emergency.
The difference in the course of similar diseases in different locations during the pandemic exposes not only the environmental and biological factors associated with these populations, but the inequity in health access and organization. Understanding this scenario is important for government authorities, as it allows for emergency management in ways that preexisting local endemics and social conditions are not overlooked.
