ITM - Institute of Tropical Medicine
The Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium (ITM) is one of the world's leading institutes for training, research and assistance in tropical medicine and health care in developing countries (founded in 1931).
ITM’s research is done by three departments. The departments and units engage in fundamental, operational and applied research in public health and tropical (human and animal) medicine. They not only study major tropical illnesses in people (AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, sleeping sickness, Buruli ulcer, worm infections, zoonoses) and animals (trypanosomes, Theileria, worm infections), but also health systems. In all specializations, innovative fundamental and applied research go hand in hand.
The departments and units work with institutions and research groups from around the world. As an academic and scientific institute devoted to the improvement of human and animal healthcare in developing countries, the ITM has always been a natural partner for many cooperation agencies and partner institutions in the South.
